FAQs

How will I know if you can help me?

I think it’s really important that you find the right therapist for you so that you can build a trusting relationship with that person so that therapy can work. I recommend that you use the first session to see if the fit feels right for you. I will answer any questions you may have and together we can assess if I may be able to help you.

How long do I need to come to counselling for it to work?

This will vary for each person. It depends on several factors, including the type of problem and your goals, your characteristics and history and your level of commitment. It is something that we would discuss and continuously assess together – some problems are bigger and some are smaller and ultimately it will depend on you and what you want to get from therapy. For some people it may be necessary to engage in psychotherapy over a longer period of time in order to explore in more depth the root of the problem. Most people who engage in the process feel some benefit within a few sessions. I would recommend that you try 6-12 sessions and we could re-evaluate at that point. Psychotherapy is most successful if you have a strong wish to change and overcome your difficulties.

How often should I come and how long are the sessions?

It is recommended that you engage in counselling on a weekly basis. My sessions are an hour long. Over time we may together agree to reduce the frequency of sessions as your needs change.
